Hey! I am Akua Genfi, LMHC-D, LPC, NCC - Therapist and Founder *

I am a Black, Fat, Queer, 2nd Generation, licensed psychotherapist who believes in the power of identity, community, and healing through nurturing connections. My mission is to provide therapy that is safe, culturally attuned and balanced with insight and action.

Who I Work With

I support women and femmes who are:

  • BIPOC and navigating racism/racial stress, microagressions, racial based trauma

  • Coping with shifting moods, varying emotions, burnout

  • Experiencing perfectionism, negative self talk, poor self identity, low self esteem

  • Moving through age, life transition, role strain or career changes

  • Navigating queer identities, gender transitions and unique sexual needs

  • First or second generation immigrants exploring cultural identity, belonging, acculturation

  • Struggling with complex family dynamics, attachment wounds, relationship issues,'

  • Having difficulty being soft, receiving support or setting boundaries

I often work with those who are looking to better  understand themselves and others. Some begin their journey after struggling with anxiety, continued conflicts with loved ones, following a life changing transition (a breakup, a career shift, parenthood)  or when feeling overwhelmed by all the roles they hold.

Many of my clients carry cultural expectations, intergenerational trauma or rooted attachment wounds that shape their world. Others are navigating self comparison to peers, or the quiet weight of depression. Sessions with me offer a space to slow down and begin to relate to yourself in adaptive and compassionate ways.

Therapy Approach

My therapeutic style is holistic, intersectional, and person-centered. I incorporate a trauma-informed lens, strengths-based reflection and warm, compassionate feedback to support clients in learning healthier ways of being. Together, we’ll explore connections between your mind, body, emotions and community. I integrate techniques from Psychodynamic, Attachment Based, Relational, Cognitive Behavioral, Narrative, Solution Focused , Dialectical Behavior, Acceptance- Commitment therapies with somatic grounding practices in my work. Sessions are collaborative and client led, meaning we move at your pace while building capacity to go deeper for greater change.

What you may experience while healing with me:

  • A model for healthy connection

  • Unconditional acceptance and understanding

  • Skill building (emotional regulation, anger management, stress reduction, organizational/planning, interpersonal/communication skills)

  • Routine formation

  • Body-based (somatic) practices and incorporation of music

  • Laughter

  • Accountability

  • Inclusion of cultural values and practices

and more!
